Story

The Project

I'm working as part of a group of Architecture students from the University of Nottingham to design and build a school in one of the poorest villages in South Africa. This project will help the local pre-school teachers trained by the Thusanang Trust to have better facilities, with decent classrooms, indoor and outdoor kitchens, an office and a playground. For children in this area, a good education is the starting point for a better life for them and their families.

Design starts this month and construction will take place over Easter. We'll be working 12 hours a day in 40'C heat for 20 days to complete this build, so it's no mean feat!

Why we need your help

We need to raise at least £30,000 between us to fund this facility, but the more we raise the more we can do. Your donation could be the difference between installing a water tank (which would provide clean water, but at a cost to the school) or providing a bore-hole for a free, reliable water supply that will benefit everyone in the community.

Our promise

This is the 10th year that this project has taken place, and this experience ensures that your donation is spent wisely and effectively. We pay for our own flights and accommodation, so ALL of your donation will go towards the actual construction project at Easter; buying materials, tools, fuel and paying the occasional local tradesmen who help us.
