Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It has come to this. I am challenging myself to crawl up 4 volcanoes in 5 days in the hope that all sorts of people will reward this foolishness with donations. All the money raised will help keep our secondary school in San Rafael going. The project is funded entirely by voluntary contributions and the school serves the surrounding indigenous communities who wouldn't have access to secondary school education otherwise. Pretty huge deal, don't you think? So what's the challenge, you ask. Well;
Day 1 Pacaya 2 552m / Santa Maria
Pacaya is 30 km southwest of Guatemala City. It is an active volcano which last erupted on May 27 2010.
Day 2 Santa Maria 3 772m / Tajamulco
Another early start to get to the top of Santa Maria as close to daybreak as possible, climb back down and head onto the beast that is Tajumulco!!
Day 3 Tajumulco 4 220m
Because Tajumulco is the highest point in Central America you really feel like you are on top of the world. I’m looking forward to that. Not so much the cold though – around minus ten degrees celsius.
Day 4 Tajumulco / Lake Atitlan
A more relaxing day where we slowly descend Tajumulco in one go and make our way by van to Lake Atitlan.
Day 5 San Pedro 3 020m
We have our final early start and our final ascent to the top of San Pedro; one of the hardest to climb in Guatemala.
