Story

Thanks for visiting.     For live updates please go to: www.thecharitypikeman.blogspot.com

INTRODUCTION : -------- I retired from the Royal Navy in May, after 23 years service.  I fully enjoyed the comradeship, and the efforts we made to support British interests at home and abroad.  In recognition of those who've been injured doing their everyday job, I’m raising money in aid of HELP FOR HEROES.

I'm WALKING from JOHN O'GROATS to LANDS END and am nearly there now.  As a personal challenge I'm wearing 17th century pikemans attire and carrying a half-sized pike (it should be 16ft long) - for practical reasons.

I'm funding the walk myself so ALL DONATIONS are going to charity. PLEASE HELP by forwarding these web addresses to everyone you know. www.justgiving.com/pikeman & www.thecharitypikeman.blogspot.com.

28 SEP ------- Another big thank you to my Aunt Joan for another £55 and £5 from a family friend.

22 SEP ------- A very big thank you goes out to my Aunts Joan, Barbara and Cousin Julie for  £140. This venture is now drawing to a close and as such I really must say what a wonderful time I've had, meeting new people and seeing what our country has to offer. I am truly humbled.

31 AUG ------- Just got back from another event, this time at Detling where I received another £50. Thanks to everyone it's great that so many people have been behind my venture.

28 AUG ------- Another big thank you goes out to the staff and customers of Roffey Barbers who collected a wonderful £125.45, and to more members of the Horsham Royal Naval Association for a further £40.

07 AUG ------- Many thanks to the gentlemen of the Horsham RNA with a further donation of £170, and to the customers of Starbucks (Horsham).

29 JUL -------- Thanks to some fantastic support on my final week we raised another £283.89 and in the beer tent at Kelmarsh Hall a further £305.85. There is also an expected donation to come from The Earl of Essex Regiment of Foot (Roundhead Association)(ECWS)

28 JUL -------- I DID IT, I DID IT! .... midday 'on the nose'  :-)    Since then we've been partying at Kelmarsh Hall and raising yet more funds.  I'll update this site (£) tomorrow.

14 JUL -------- I'm planning to arrive at Lands End around midday on Friday 24th July.  Sometime that week (possibly at Lands End) I'll be meeting up with my Cornish relatives.  {Something to look forward to.}  If anyone would like to meet me there, or walk the final stretch, please make contact via the blog, or just turn up.

After a little celebrating I'll be heading up to Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, for English Heritage's 'Festival of History'.  AND MORE CELEBRATING!

29 JUN -------- After much frustration I've realised that this Justgiving site will now have to be static and all updates will be entered onto the blog (www.thecharitypikeman.blogspot.com). Fundraising progress can still be seen here.

I walked up a very steep hill yesterday with Steve Foster (Fairfax Battallia).  Well done for making it!

27 JUN -------- Justgiving has a new look, and with it has come a week of MAJOR frustration and wasted hours. I now also have a 10,000 character limit, whereas before I'd entered 71,000.  This has meant I've had to delete most of my content. Sorry.

This weekend I’m with friends in Hebden Bridge. It’s wonderful.  Mobile phone reception continues to be VERY patchy.
