Peak District Challenge 2018 · 21 September 2018 to 22 September 2018 ·
On 22nd September, I'm taking part in the Peak District Challenge. It's a 50km walk, I've been told with an elevation change the equivalent of climbing Ben Nevis, with a target time of 12 hours. We get the route only a few days before, and have to navigate...
15 years ago, I co-founded Kiota, and in 2010 we, together with our Tanzanian partners, started the KIWOHEDE Open School, a secondary school for young people who would otherwise be out of education, with a focus on girls. As well as education, which can open future doors, the students are offered support to overcome trauma, raise self esteem and to prevent dangerous early adulthood.
The Kiota team are all volunteers with full time jobs and busy lives. This year has been a personally challenging one for me, and that has had an impact on our fundraising. We also do not have our largest annual fundraiser this year, litterpicking at Glastonbury Festival, as the festival is having a year off. Thankfully, this year, the school is part funded by Italian NGO We World. However we still need to find the funds for four full time teachers' salaries, stationary, teaching aids and other essential running costs beyond the next few months.
I thought I would train for this, and I haven't done anything like as much as I should have. It will hurt! Please sponsor me to support the kids in Tanzania and to make the pain worthwhile!
