Artic Survival Challenge · 5 March 2010
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
My friend and I have volunteered to get very very cold on an artic survival week to raise money for Age Concern Exeter. The week will be during the 5-12th March 2010 where average temperatures will be -7C but it has been known to drop down to -30C! The trip takes place in Northern Sweden and involves building and living in shelters and even spending a night in a snow hole which we will have built over the week.
The reason I have decided to live off ration packs in a freezing cold hole in the middle of a snowy nowhere is to raise money for Age Concern Exeter. Age Concern Exeter provides services and support for older people in the Exeter area. During university term time, I volunteer on the home visiting scheme where I visit an old lady once a week to provide her with someone to talk with and to share her weeks news with. For many of the older members of Exeter, these home visits are one of their only contacts with people during the week. Hence, this scheme and many others by Age Concern Exeter are very important for the town.
Your donations and the total money that I raise for the charity will go towards setting up a new scheme called 'Men in Sheds.' This scheme is designed to get isolated older men to meet with other men in the communities by renovating old tools in a set location. These tools will then in turn be sent off to help African people build up their communities.
One last thing to remember....everyone is going to be old at one point! So please dig deep and donate now
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Many thanks
Pippa
