Fundraising for Melanoma Fund
Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in the annual Dragon Boat Race at Bewl Water with my team The Amazonians and Gargareans on the 4th September 2021 and am fundraising for The Melanoma Fund.
The Melanoma Fund is on a mission to make more people aware of the risks of UV exposure, and how sun protection is vital when it comes to prevention. Skin cancer is the UK’s most common cancer, with melanoma coming in fifth, however all forms are mainly preventable.
Rates have soared by 70% in the last 10 years and our aim is to lower incidence.
Many people underestimate the importance of sun protection, even if they understand the risks, and this is something we aim to change.
They work to:
- Raise awareness of the risks
- Improve sun protection habits
- Increase early detection rates
- Lower incidence of all types of skin cancer
