The Sixth Form at Pitsford School is organising a 24 Hour Cyclathon raising money for the charity Lupus UK, from Friday 3^rd February to Saturday 4^th February 2023.

Lupus UK is a charity which aims to “empower people by providing information about lupus and offering support, so their voices are heard and their condition diagnosed and managed effectively”.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system is dysfunctional and mistakenly identifies the body’s own tissues as foreign invaders. In people with lupus, the immune system creates autoantibodies to attack the body’s tissues. People who suffer from Lupus can often feel isolated as it is an invisible illness meaning that it isn’t necessarily visible to others.

We have chosen the charity Lupus UK because one of our student's family members suffers from the disease and we feel that the charity is making incredible progress in raising awareness of Lupus and improving the lives of people who have Lupus.

The whole Senior School, from Year 7 all the way to Year 13 will be participating in the Cyclathon, along with teachers too! The Sixth Form charity tuck shop will also be running during break, lunch and afterschool, donating 50% of its profit to Lupus UK, with the other 50% going to its usual charity, the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will go straight to Lupus UK. Your donations will help Lupus UK to carry out their vital work. £5 would cover the cost of 5 information packs sent out to inform people about Lupus and what Lupus UK can offer them. They are sent not only to Lupus sufferers but to friends and family of sufferers enabling them to understand this very complex illness.
