Ironman Italy 2019 · 14 August 2019

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

I will be completing an Ironman in September and through this I would like to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Cancer is a disease which affects us all in some way and has affected my family. Cancer Research UK is a hugely important charity committed to saving lives through research.

An Ironman is a long distance triathlon consisting of a 3.8 KM Swim, 180KM Cycle and a 42.2KM Run (i.e. a full marathon), non-stop, as fast as possible. As many of you know I'm a keen Squash player and had not done a triathlon when I began this training. I have taken up swimming, cycling and running in the last year in preparation for this event and after 347KM swum, 7,540KM cycled, 1,356KM run and an obscene amount of lycra worn, I am hopefully nearly ready!

If you would like to donate to Cancer Research any contribution would be gratefully received.

Thanks very much, Philip Hartley
