Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I thought you might like to know a bit about me and the reasons I have decided to run the London Marathon on behalf of Mission Care but before you read on here is my
Progress Report to date - Friday 13th April: The training has taken it's toll on knees and now ankles as well, but I am looking forward to the big day. Managed 3 hours and 20 miles last Saturday and the one before. I record every session and as of 11th April, I have run almost 300 miles since 1st January so at least I can see some progress!
Name: PJ Sullivan. I’ve been called P J since I was a baby. I’m not sure any one remembers my full name - even me!
Married: to Sarah
Family: We expect our first baby in May and we’re both really looking forward to the event.
Home: We live in Bromley
Hobbies: I’m very much into motor cycling. I own a Honda CBR 600RR. Those in the know will appreciate this bike but for those of you who don’t understand the finer details the ‘RR’ is very important - this is a proper bike! I’m also a fitness fanatic according to Sarah….but I don’t think I am as fanatic as I used to be.
Why Mission Care? I’m a long standing friend of Mission Care’s Chief Executive, Colin Bloom and having seen the work that Mission Care is involved in, when Colin asked me if I would run on behalf of MC, I was absolutely delighted and proud to do so.
Mission Care isn’t a high profile charity. Unlike lots of the main charities, Mission Care doesn’t get huge recognition so it is really good to stand up for the smaller charity. It is also Bromley based and who knows – maybe Mission Care will be looking after me one day.
Training: Training for the Marathon can’t be left until the last minute. You need to train and experience all surfaces – grass, pavement, road - you shouldn’t just run on concrete because of the strain it puts on your body.
How’s it going so far? I’m running this year because I carried over my place from last year. I had glandular fever, got really ill and I wasn’t able to run. I had to pay to register my place again but I am much healthier now – so I’m looking forward to it. I’m not ready yet but I am getting conditioned for it - It’s 9 weeks away from me writing this so I need to plug on. I need to be on complete form by 2 weeks before the actual event which means by 8th April Scary!
Previous time: The last time I ran the London Marathon was in 2003 and I finished in 4 hrs 26m. Last time I ran with my sister so I had someone urging me on – this time I will be running by myself – all be it in a crowd of thousands of others – and I am aiming to finish in 4hrs 15.
Jelly babies are my secret ingredient. I have them in my pocket when I'm running & they keep me going. The spectators are incredibly important as well. If you get good weather it is a wonderful day – if it rains and is cold, less people turn out to cheer you on and there is a different atmosphere.
