The official Playing for Georgia page

Thank you visiting our JustGiving page set up in memory of Georgia Lesley Jackson.
On the 4th of December 2017, Georgia took her own life while studying at Brighton University. She was 21 years old and this changed our lives forever.
Georgia was looking forward to Christmas. She had written her Christmas list. On 3 December I sent her pictures of our tacky Christmas decorations. She replied. “ can’t wait Mama”
But something happened that weekend. Georgia felt lower than she’d ever felt before and she felt alone. She was the last person we would ever have thought this would happen to, and it’s left us with many questions that we can’t find all the answers to.
Although this has been the worst experience of our lives, we have found support in the charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS).
Not many people are aware of SOBS and the work they do until they lose a loved one to suicide. Sadly there is a need for more groups every day.
At the moment there isn't a group in every town and many people across the country have to travel a fair distance to receive support at such a tragic and very lonely time.
We would like this fundraiser to be a step towards helping to raise awareness of this charity and helping people to talk openly.
We need to talk about Georgia, to say her name all the time and sometimes it feels like the only place we really can, is within these groups.
The idea of holding a football tournament and fundraising day came about because of Georgia’s love for football. Just like her dad, Georgia had played football since she was eight years old. She continued to play, even for her University team, Brighton Panthers.
The teams playing in this tournament include players that Georgia had grown up playing with, as well as teams of people who wanted to help us pay tribute to her.
This is an opportunity to raise money but more importantly for Georgia’s family and friends to pay tribute to her by remembering her love for women’s football.
We’d love for players to come together and remember Georgia, for the lovely, funny, unique person she was, and will always be.
