The Wave Project

We use surfing and peer mentoring to transform the lives of young people

Charity Registration No. 1163421

Story

The Physio Society has created a team of running superstars, who will be running the Plymouth 10k to raise money for the Wave project.
The team varies in experience from 2k specialists to half marathon slayers, with expected finishing times varying from 50 mins- 2 hours!

Please help us reach our £500 goal, any donation is appreciated!!

Blisters and burning muscles are a fair compromise to raise money for a charity we believe in. As student physiotherapists we understand how exercise/ sport can change lives and improve well-being.
We support the Wave Project's use of surf therapy as a beneficial intervention for young people in the UK facing social and emotional challenges. They run sessions around the country helping anyone who needs it, from physically disabled to emotionally challenged children.

Surf therapy helps attendees feel more positive about themselves, socialise better with others, create new and stronger friendship networks and feel more confident and optimistic about their life. Both the process of surfing, and the supportive culture fostered by The Wave Project, are intrinsic to these benefits. In a nutshell, surf therapy works.

Other benefits include:

  • Being more resilient to cope with other problems in their lives
  • Improving self-esteem and self-worth
  • Improving ‘social wellbeing’ – the ability to make friends and form social relationships
  • Increasing their vitality – fitness, risk taking and passion for life.

Please support us and spare anything you can for this great cause!!
