Story
Hello... My name is Polly.
This year I turn 30 and wanted to take on a unique challenge and to raise awareness and support for the Alzheimer's Society in the process.
This challenge involves climbing up 42 floors (over 1000 steps!!) of the iconic Cheesegrater Skyscraper; The Leadenhall Building, in London, before a solo abseil back down to ground level.
I have seen the devastating effect that this disease has on individuals and families in both a personal and professional manner.
My grandparents had Alzheimer's and although when we reminisce we talk about the funny stories of mild forgetfulness., it was a difficult time to see a loved one change so dramatically. Living with or caring for those with Alzheimer's can be a challenging time for individuals and families.
As a student nurse I see many people living with dementia and talking with families about how individuals have changed because of the disease can be heart breaking.
The Alzheimer's society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
This amazing charity not only supports those affected by Alzheimer's but aims to create awareness of the disease and its impact within our communities.
My target is to raise £1500, that's around £1.50 per step or £36 a floor!
Any donations would be greatly appreciated... Thank you for reading my story.
