In 2017 with much excitement, enthusiasm and a huge amount of fear! I was granted a place in The London Marathon in April this year. I have decided to run the marathon to raise money for Sands Charity.
Many of you may not have heard of Sands, so let me tell you a bit about them and what they do.
“Sands is the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. We operate throughout the UK, supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby, working to improve the care bereaved parents receive, and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives”
Sands came indirectly into my life when my cousins Selina and David lost baby Sam during birth in November 2011. Following such a devastating event that nobody can imagine comes an overwhelming storm of emotions. Sands were an invaluable part of the bereavement process when Sam passed away. When nobody knew how to help or what to say, Sands were there to give all the support they could.
Like all other charities, Sands rely on the financial support of donations to reach their vision; a world where fewer babies die, and when a baby dies anyone affected by the death receives the best care and support for as long as they need.
You may be thinking I am absolutely bonkers for entering the London Marathon, but to ran a marathon is on my bucket list, and to say I have been able to help such a precious charity like Sands makes the early morning runs in the pouring rain and the muscle aches well worth it.
On Boxing Day, I started my official 17 week programme to get me to full fitness to be able to complete this mega long run. Now I need help from all of you around me to raise as much money for Sands. Please donate generously.
As well as this Just Giving page I will be holding some fundraising event, including a pudding party on March 2nd. It would be great if you could get involved in this event, and I promise lots of yummy deserts.
