Story
Hi everyone,
As many of you know, I have struggled with Anorexia since I was around 12 (I'm now 17). Anorexia causes so much agony to so many people of all ages and backgrounds and it has a higher mortality rate than any other mental illness. Soon after my diagnosis in 2013, anorexia rapidly took over my life to a dangerous level, leaving me admitted to A&E. Each day I woke up to my head telling me I was worthless, alone, ugly, fat and unloved. Each day I felt trapped by rules that anorexia created. Each day I starved myself, over exercised and made myself sick just to try to make the voices stop. I was terrified and completely controlled by these manipulative and bullying voices in my head. Not long after this, I was admitted to Rhodes Farm (now known as Rhodes Wood) which is an inpatient unit for young people suffering from eating disorders. I spent 6 months fighting for my life in Rhodes Farm, with the help of psychiatrists, therapists, nurses and mostly the other young people in there who became my closest friends.
After years of gruelling exercise routines, rules around everything I eat, hurting my body and distancing myself from family and friends, I am finally trying to love myself. Anorexia took away my life for many years but now I'm taking it back.
Beat is a charity which supports anyone suffering from an eating disorder. It provides a support service which costs £1100 to run each day alone. I'm doing the Walk and Talk in London on the 4th November to raise awareness and money for this amazing charity. A donation means providing someone with a support system and coping methods, and could ultimately save their life. I'd appreciate it if anyone able to donate could do so and if you're unable to, please share this link. Thank you so much!
