Mark Walker – My reason for running the London Marathon 2019…

My experience of cancer has had a dramatic impact on my life
and the lives of the people around me, taking me close to breaking point both emotionally and financially.

My Brother and I were inseparable from a young age, had mutual friends, played golf together, played football together, went to pubs and clubs together, in fact, we did pretty much everything together. To the extent that shortly after I had started working in the property lettings business at the age of 20, my Brother joined me at the same business, ‘Grants Lettings’. After a few years of Ed Grant and Paul Kingham teaching us everything we needed to know about the industry, my Brother and I invested the money we had made from our property investments into our own business.

A year into running our own business, my Brother Paul, aged 28 years old, was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer and given nine months to live. The way my Brother handled this situation was truly inspiring to all who knew him. He fought this cruel disease and was selected to go on a new drug trial, but sadly he became too ill to receive the treatment as the cancer had spread to his liver and lungs and he passed away one week after the trial was due to start.

I know that my Brother would be right behind me in raising money for such a great cause as Cancer Research as he received the very best of
treatment. I want to give something back to help try and save the lives of others that unfortunately have to deal with this terrible disease.

Back in August 2017 I raised over £1,000 for Cancer Research
by taking part in a White Collar Boxing event which was an incredible experience (even though I lost the fight!!) and I’m looking forward to competing in the London Marathon on April 2019. It has been an ambition of mine to run the London Marathon since a very young age
and to be given the chance to run the most famous Marathon in the world and raise a significant amount of money for such a great cause is a truly fantastic prospect.

You will be able to keep up to date with my training over the next few months on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin as I
will, for a few months only, become a Vlogger! It’s well out of my comfort zone but having pushed the boundaries with the boxing and again with the Marathon, I thought I may as well add a third and get myself on video!

T-Shirt Sponsorship – A massive thanks to PIE Recruitment for being the first sponsor of my Marathon training t-shirt. If other businesses would like to sponsor me then sponsorship space on my t-shirt starts
from £25 and is dependent on size of logo required. My training top will be featured in my videos and thanks to the help of PIE Recruitment’s social media team will be shared across multiple social media platforms and seen by thousands of people leading up to the event. Contact me on 07590 831222 for more info.

Come on, do it, please press the DONATE button and pledge however much you can spare to a great cause to help the people who are touched by this terrible disease.
