Power of Parenting is a charity that was set up by my Dad and his wife, Paul and Samantha Adams back in 2016. Having raised four kids of their own they decided they would like to try and make a difference for some of the local looked after children in the Bracknell Forest area where their own kids grew up. So they embarked on a journey to become foster carers and over the last 4 years have amazingly already seen two youngsters go from there care onto be adopted by new families, which is the ultimate goal.

Still not content the next step on their journey was the formation of the charity with the aim of providing financial and moral support to looked after children so they go onto fulfil their own academic or sporting ambitions through in further education, thus giving them greater opportunity to achieve their own personal goals later in life. The financial support comes in the form of a Bursary and takes into account the often very difficult start in life that some of these young people have had, often with very little stability as they are moved around different homes within the care system. Due to the fact the reasons behind why these young people are in the care system at all are often completely out of their control they children deserve the same opportunity as any other and it is P.O.P’s aim to ensure, where possible, that is exactly what they get.

Eight of us here at HiFX; John Freeme, Peter Hatch, Conor Sawdon, Tom Ragnauth, Cameron Dawe, Neil Jones and Rob Caulfield are taking on the challenge to kayak from Oxford to Windsor, which is about 90 miles in just 3 days, with the added challenge of navigating 33 locks along the way!
