Story

Port Meadow is under threat and needs YOU to help save it. The University's ugly blocks have vandalised the views and environment of Port Meadow. Together, we the people of Oxford, can hold the City Council and University of Oxford to account, and get these buildings lowered!

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1. GIVE & GIFT AID (adding 25% to your donation, if you’re eligible)

     £50     £100    £250   £1000 ?!  (or whatever you can afford)

2 EMAIL saveportmeadow@gmail.com to be kept informed. We can't reach you and let you know what's happened if you don't!

3. LEAVE A COMMENT: What does Port Meadow mean to you?

4 SHARE with all your friends. Spread the word.

Port Meadow, with views of the "Dreaming Spires", is "Oxford's oldest monument  that has changed little since prehistoric times", says Oxford City Council, website. Not any more!

"Following careful assessment, it has been concluded that the development will not be visible from the majority of Port Meadow". Oxford University Planning Statement, October 2011. Really?!

The University Port Meadow blocks are a planning fiasco, built by an unthinking University of Oxford, and approved by an inept City Council. The Council's own Heritage Officer advised "there is no justification for this harm". He was ignored.

Clr. John Goddard described the situation as a "massive collective failure", yet neither the University nor Council are taking responsibility, both are saying “nothing can be done” and waiting for public outrage to subside.

The people of Oxford deserve better of the University we host, and the Council we elect to serve us.

The Campaign to Save Port Meadow is a community campaign, in partnership with CPRE Oxfordshire. We want the planning permission revoked, the buildings reduced in height, proper consultation, and to hold the City Council to account. CPRE Oxfordshire is pursuing a legal challenge to seek a judicial review of the planning permission decision. To do this, the Campaign needs funds.

Your donation will be held and managed by CPRE Oxfordshire, and used for legal, publicity and other costs related to the Save Port Meadow campaign.

Please tick your contact preferences once you've made your donation so we can let you know how the campaign is going.

(In the event of more money being raised than is needed, funds will be held by CPRE and used for the future protection of Port Meadow and other green spaces in the City of Oxford.)
