Story
Dementia is the UKs biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure.
Janet our Mother and Grandmother has been living with dementia for over 10 years now, she is now in the very late stages of Alzheimer’s and the person that we once knew and loved isn’t present anymore.
This has been devastating to watch but it has also been such a struggle to find support and the right care for her. Very little is known about dementia therefore the care and support isn’t enough nor is accessible - the amount difficulties we’ve had in trying to find the best care and support for her just shouldn’t be happening.
My Dad/Grandad was his wife’s main caregiver and was a constant companion for her but watching his wife struggle and not be the same person she once was is a very painful experience for one to witness but also a lonely one. Apart from this organisation there isn’t much accessible information and mental support for caregivers available for people.
He past away in May of this year.
We are walking for Janet and anyone else who has or will be diagnosed with dementia but we are also walking in the memory of Bill James.
