Story
Last year we saw the peaceful country of Ukraine invaded and witnessed the sickening scenes of that country being destroyed by an aggressor using bombs, rape and torture, amongst other weapons of war.
What was, and continues to be incredible and awe-inspiring is the Ukrainians refusal to give up and give in which is why I want to support and help in anyway I can.
This has led to me working with the amazing local Ukraine to Chilterns charity which has helped over 100 families flee from the war torn region.
After hearing and seeing Oksana’s story last September, (you too can see this on the charity’s website) I instinctively wanted to help.
After hitting my 50th birthday last December I decided find an event to raise money that would be a huge personal challenge, as a demonstration of how strongly I feel about this needless war. This led me to the Isle of Wight challenge - 106km over two days is no mean feat and I have been building up my training since last September. I continue to be driven by the bravery of the Ukrainian people.
This is an extremely difficult time to be fundraising and I am very aware that we are currently in a cost of living crisis. All I ask is that, if you can spare some pennies to help this cause that you donate however small.
The sunflower, as the national flower of Ukraine has become synonymous with this cause. As a thank you for your support I would be delighted to send a ceramic sunflower to every donation over £10. The local Ukrainian community have painted these and signed their names on the back. All you need to do is send me a message with your address and you will receive your sunflower within two weeks - display it with pride!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any donation you might wish to make.
Wish me luck!
