For one in two of us, cancer will change everything. When it does, so can we. Our services, advice, therapies and support are for you and the people close to you, helping everyone to live with and beyond cancer. The funds we raise also support vital, pioneering research and clinical trials.

Story

Western Park Cancer Hospital - Red Devils Sky Dive
2nd of September 2009

As you may or may not know my Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer back October 2007.

For those of you who do not know who my father is he is Dennis Priestley. Twice World Darts Champion and one of the most respected players on the tour.

After finding out he had Prostate cancer he still competed in the 2008 PDC World Championships knowing that on the 4th of January 2008 he was going under the knife to have his Prostate removed.

The operation was a success in that the Prostate was removed and no other difficulties occured during the operation. Although after tests some cancerous cells were left behind and another decision had to be made.

After consulatations with doctors and specialists the decision was made to attend Western Park Cancer Hospital for a month of intense Radiotherapy treatment. Every weekday throughout September 2008 he attended the hospital for the radiotherapy treatment. During this time he say how vital this hospital was and how many people are unfortunately suffering from the "Big C".

After completing the treatment and a few days rest he was back competing at the highest level. Miraculously he went on to win a Players Championship event in only his 2nd day of competitive darts after the treatment and also to reach the semi finals of the World Gran Prix in Dublin live on Sky Sports, which included an astonishing fighback from 2 sets down to win 3 sets to 2 against Wayne Mardle.

A feat in itself but an absolutely amazing achievement taking into account the situation.

We are now in a waiting game. In April 2009 he went for some tests and got some good news in that his PSA levels were very low. He will continue to have 6 month tests and hopefully the results will be just as positive.

After attending Western Park Cancer Hospital he was approached to become a Patron for the charity which he accepted with great pride.

I am following on the mantle and I know that this Sky Dive will be the first of many fundraising activities I will take part in.

I will be doing the jump alongside a friend of mine Kevin Rew. This is a cause close to Kevs heart as his mother also attended Western Park Cancer Hospital and we are hoping to raise as much money as possible.

The hospital has helped my father when he needed it and I want to help raise as much money as possible so that the hospital can continue to help as many people as possible.

Any donation little or large would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read my fundraising page.
