Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
Finding a lump in my right breast back in March was frightening, and it took me a few days to accept that I had found something and to pluck up the courage to do something about it . Sounds ridiculous? Yes I totally agree, however my initial thoughts were 'I don't have time to be sick' and 'I have too many people who rely on me'........
So once I found the courage to phone the Doctor's surgery it was like someone had put a Blue Light on my head and away I went. The team of Doctors, Surgeons, Oncologists, and Nursing staff have all been incredible. Even the wonderful lady who volunteers her time to help out in the Cancer Day Centre, making sure everyone is fed and watered.
The care from start to end (nearly the end as I'm still having some treatment) has been absolutely amazing. The treatment itself has been tough and it certainly isn't something I would want to go through again.
So why am I fund raising for the Poole Hospital Cancer Trust? Well without the range of Body Scanners that we have in Poole Hospital it would extend the time of diagnosis for the type of cancer and the parts of the body that are affected. An early diagnosis allows the team of Consultants and Oncologists to tailor the best treatment protocol for each individual, so treatment can begin a lot quicker. The sooner the cancer tumour is treated the better outcome and a lower risk of the tumour returning.
With the help of my Husband's Masonic Lodge we have already raised in excess of £900 for the charity and I would like to add to that.
I'm not aiming to climb any mountain, row across the ocean, run 10 marathons back to back or do a sky dive, however what I am doing is more for a bit of fun.......
Sadly I had to endure a mastectomy and whilst I am opting for a reconstruction it wasn't able to be done at the time of the operation due to having radiotherapy. So for the next 12 months I have been given a silicon prosthesis to wear.
The fund raising is for you all to guess the weight of my prosthesis in grams..... The only clue is in the photo on this page. The winner will be the person who guesses the correct weight or near to the correct weight. They will receive a nice bottle of champagne or a voucher if they live at distance when sending a bottle of fizz probably isn't such a good idea.
To keep things simple one guess per person and donate what you feel you would like. Please put your guessed weight in the comments section when you place your donation.
Thank you in advance for helping me to raise much needed funds. xx
