In early 2021 my mum was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. She had no idea whatsoever that she was unwell and that she actually had cancer. Following initial tests the scans showed that the cancer had spread from her uterus to the lining of the walls and internal organs. I clearly remember the shock of hearing my mum had cancer sitting in the doctor's office. It was very difficult to control the tears. How can a person not know they have cancer and how had it progressed to Stage 3 with no symptoms at all. The doctor said she had less than 6 months to live without treatment. They call it 'The Silent Killer' and I know now why. 

In October my mum underwent 10 hour surgery followed by 6 rounds of chemotherapy which started in December. The strength and courage shown by her was admirable. Her positive attitude throughout this whole process has been truly inspiring and made me realise that when faced with challenges in life, you can either let them get you down or you tackle them head on. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. 

The support she received from the NHS and supporting charities has been phenomenal and this is one of the main reasons we want to give something back. We want to raise more awareness for a cancer which is often diagnosed too late for most women. My mum was one of the lucky ones. 

As most of you know Hiran and I have been friends since 9 years old and we love hiking and climbing mountains together. Having climbed the highest mountain in the United Kingdom, Ben Nevis (1345m) we thought let's go all out and climb Mont Blanc (4810m), the highest mountain in Europe and the Alps range.
