Story

We work for Clatterbridge Private Clinic, Clare - HCA, Debby - Chemotherapy nurse and Shelly - Reception, In the Private Clinic 49% of our profits go back into the NHS.This year has been a tough year for everyone, Charities have not been able to do much out in the public eye. So what better way to help them raise more money and awareness, by sky diving 15000FT out of a plane in March 2021.

**Due to covid guidelines our skydiving 🪂 event has been postponed till 12th June 2021.  We will keep you updated if any further changes are made**

Can’t quite believe it.....Debby & Shelly completed their skydive 🪂 on 12/06/21.  Clare will be doing hers in September

Hi I’m Debby a Chemotherapy Nurse here at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) Wirral site. Since qualifying as a nurse 9 years ago my nursing career has been dedicated to CCC.  I’ve been raising money for charity for quite a few years now and being part of the ‘CCC family’ I am more than ever driven to continue to help make a difference to the lives of our patients by raising money to allow CCC to continue funding vital research, provide specialist equipment and support services that would otherwise be unavailable.

It truly is a humbling experience to raise money for charity, especially for our CCC charity as they do such amazing work and always keep their patients
at the forefront of all they achieve by raising money to benefit them

I see on a daily basis the strength and courage of our patients facing treatment.  It’s by no means an easy journey but being able to offer support, help and encouragement on a personal level makes me so proud to be a Nurse.  Nursing to me is not just about coming in to work and doing the job I’m paid for, for me it’s about giving something back to those fighting on through every day of their treatment with such spirit, strength and gratefulness for what we do.  So to me it’s about going that extra mile and helping make a difference in more ways than one. It’s about giving hope and opportunity for patients to always receive the best care possible.

To enable me to empathise with my patients while raising money I choose fundraisers that push me out of my comfort zone, that challenge me in a way that makes me think of the challenges they face daily.   Without that personal challenge to myself I feel I can’t begin to comprehend how our incredibly wonderful patients may feel when first stepping through the doors of CCC.  My previous charity events have pushed my strength, endurance and fitness (lack of!) capabilities to the limit but this is the first time that I will face an absolute ‘fear’ as I have to jump out of a plane at 15000 ft. My stomach lurches at the sheer thought of it, it’s definitely not something I’ve always dreamt of doing! I know it’s going to push me to my limits to take on this challenge but it will certainly help me in a way to understand the fear and trepidation our awe-inspiring patients feel when going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment and for that alone I am going to take this leap, this crazy leap of faith to skydive out of a plane with Clare and Shelly (my fabulous colleagues)

Like Clare I also need to loose weight to be able to complete this charity event, so hopefully it’s going to be a win-win fundraiser (for our charity and for us loosing weight too!)
Wish me luck I’m going to need it!!  If you can donate however small or otherwise please be assured it’s greatly appreciated and it’s all for a truly fantastic cause....x
