August 2009 UPDATE:
Just a little update. The full calculations have been made now, and will costs taken away for the Skydive and Gift-Aid added in for the events, so far we have raised £3,466.73! £1,185.41 was raised by the fantastic four when Skydiving and £2,281.32 was raised at the Whacky Whale Races Day! So only £1533.27 is needed to hit our £5,000 target. And of course, we'd love to go above and beyond our target so please, sponsor our lovely girl today!
July 2009 UPDATE:
So we're half way through the year, and half way through our fundraising target! Those who attended Mike's Whacky Whale Races Day raised an amazing £2033 towards the target - and had a fantastic day, even with a spot of rain! Photo's will be up shortly to show you the results of that day. Previous to this, we also had the fantastic four (Alison, Matt, Laura and Alexa) who did a Skydive from 12,000 feet raising a group total of around £2000. Look out for the next fundrasing event in aid of WDCS shortly...! Throughout 2009, Profile is raising money for our adopted dolphin, a resident bottlenose dolphin that resides in the Moray Firth. Our dolphin is one of 130 animals, part of the only surviving population of its kind in the North Sea. As part of the donation process, we will be running a competition to name our dolphin. Please write your suggested name in the comment box when you sponsor us, and you will be entered into the draw. The winning name will be announced on 22nd March 2010 which marks our one year anniversary of being sponsors of this dolphin. Our Dolphin ("744" currently, she's waiting for you to name her!) is a lovely young female bottlenose dolphin who was first identified in 1999 through her unusual markings of small nicks along the trailing edge of her small, triangular dorsal fin. We know that she is at least 10 years old. WDCS have not yet seen her with a calf but she enjoys playing with her great friend Kesslet’s 18 month old little boy. She is a very social dolphin, always in the company of other dolphins and is loyal to the same circle of friends such as Rainbow, Kesslet, Sundance and Moonlight. She can be found around Chanonry Point and Cromarty a lot, either hunting or socialising with her companions. She can be picked her out of a group not only through her distinctive dorsal fin but also by her very light coloured eyelids – no other dolphin that the WDCS team know has this. WDCS addresses the conservation concerns and the welfare needs of cetaceans wherever they occur. WDCS has offices in the UK, US, Germany, Australia and Argentina and are active in over 25 countries. Their network of experts works tirelessly to campaign for global protection for these animals and they fund and manage field projects, research, conservation and educational initiatives, aimed at reducing and ultimately eliminating the threats to whales and dolphins, and raising awareness of the need to protect them in their natural environment. Please lend your support for the staff of Profile and the work of WDCS by donating / sponsoring today. If you would like to find out more about the work the WDCS do, please go to www.wdcs.org.uk.
