30 years ago on Feb 1st 1988 we lost our Mother. Only 39 years old, Jagdish Kaur took her own life and left behind her 4 young children. 

She suffered many years of Domestic Violence which involved physical, financial and emotional abuse. This was driven by cultural and family expectations, our fathers abuse of alcohol and his need to control her finances. He made sure she felt isolated and powerless.

She suffered more hurt and anguish in her short lifetime than anyone should ever have to experience. Jagdish felt unable to confide in many people. When our Mum approached her local temple for help they advised her to go back home where the violence continued. Our Mum suffered in silence and was on her own. 

We have to rely on the memories of friends and family to fill in the blanks as to the kind of person she was. We are told she was wonderful, warm, affectionate and loved us all deeply. She was a huge support to her family and friends when they needed her.

Nobody should ever be failed in this way. Our Mum was failed by her community and her family. Awareness and education about D.V and it's impact on families is the only way out of this very dark place. Even after her death, the impact of the violence still leaves its scars on us all. 

We want to raise funds to support (Karma Nirvana) so that families know they are not alone. Funds to DV have been cut drastically and we ask you to support a cause painfully close to our hearts.
