Story
They said he would never survive a year… He is now about to turn 30. They said he would never talk... He is now a fervent Arsenal fan who never stops. They said he would never walk… He now runs, swims and rides a bike.
James* has defied the odds. He would not be who he is without the determination of those closest to him and the support of Camphill. Camphill has given him independence, confidence and a sense of identity.
We (Millie, Val, Luka & Will) cycled nearly 300 miles from Paddington to Padstow (Cornwall) over three days. In addition, Millie has completed an Olympic distance triathlon - 1.5km swim, 45km bike ride & 10km run. We want to raise as much money as possible for the Newton Dee Camphill Community.
As we raised £10,000 we did, as promised, do the bike ride in pink. We will match the first 25 people to give £100.
James attended a Camphill school and now lives at The Camphill Community of Newton Dee. Camphill offers opportunities for people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and other special needs. It has a number of independent residential and day schools, specialist colleges of further education and adult communities. Camphill is a place where abilities and qualities are recognised and nurtured as the foundation for a fulfilling life.
