Tough guy consists of live electric hanging wires, fire fields, ice lakes to name a few obstacles. So why am i putting myself through an assault course of pain and torture I hear you ask? Well the story is below..

In the early hours of March 2009, a week after my 18th birthday, I was rushed and admitted to Worcester Royal Hospital where I was diagnosed with suffering from meningococcal meningitis. Fortunately for me I was healthy, kept myself in shape and the disease was caught early. This allowed doctors to carry out the required treatment and I made a full recovery. Many others aren't so lucky...

Estimations show that there are around 3,400 cases of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia every year in the UK and Ireland.

This means that every day nine people become ill with the diseases. With one in ten people dying, a death will occur almost every day. A further two people will be left with life-altering after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and multiple amputations.

These figures could be reduced if people had a better understanding of the diseases. Do you know the symptoms?

Anyone can get meningitis or septicaemia, but age is one of the main risk factors. Babies are at higher risk of bacterial meningitis than any other age group. Toddlers are also at increased risk of meningitis. Teenagers and young adults are at risk mainly from meningococcal meningitis. But it is important to know that you can get meningitis or septicaemia at any time of your life.

The Meningitis Research Foundation help spread the word on these diseases, support families and people who have suffered from the disease, psychologically and physically through treatment and research funded by the charity.
