PWM 3 Peaks Challenge · 22 June 2019

Together with our supporters, Barts Charity is there for patients and families in East London – through it all. We support pioneering research and the wellbeing of our brilliant NHS staff. We help to refurbish wards and provide Barts Health hospitals with the very best equipment.

Story

We - Aaron, Alex, Anne, Brett, Emona, Harriet C, Harriet M, Harrison,  Graham, Imogen, Kerri, Laura, Loren, Mark, Martin, Nathan, Ricardo, Richard and Simon G - will be taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge the weekend of  22nd & 23rd June. Our team of 19, aim to conquer the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis at 1,334m), England (Scafell Pike at 978m) and Wales (Mount Snowdon at 1,085m). We will be walking 26 miles, climbing 10,000 feet and driving 480 miles in 24 hours - or as close to this time as journey time between the peaks allow.

This challenge will be extremely difficult and will test the team’s physical and mental ability. Grit and determination are vital in overcoming fatigue as we trek rough, rocky terrain; battling against unpredictable weather conditions throughout to complete this fast paced challenge.

We are taking on the UK’s most highly regarded trekking challenge to raise money for the ongoing work of Barts Health Violence Reduction Service, founded by Martin Griffiths, a consultant trauma surgeon at the Royal London Hospital. Partners Wealth Management partnered with Barts Charity after hearing Martin speak about his experiences of knife crime.

Martin was inspired to change the future for the young stab victims he was treating and set up the UK’s first programme which offers specialist ward-side intervention. From the moment young people are admitted to the hospital – at their most vulnerable and open to change – the violence reduction efforts begin and will continue after dischargeThe service has had tremendous success in reducing rates of retaliation violence readmission in young people and has helped to reduce the proportion of stabbing victims who come back to Martin after being knifed a second time from 45% to just 1%.

Partners Wealth Management is fundraising to support the Barts Charity Trauma Appeal, with a specific focus on raising funds towards a Violence Reduction Nurse post at the Royal London Hospital. Your donations will help continue the work to reduce youth knife violence.
