Lincolnshire Wildlife Park incorporating The National Parrot Sanctuary, provides rescue facilities for needy animals specialising in Parrots and Tigers in order to offer them long term care and sanctuary. We feel these animals need more than just being passed from home to home.

Story

Moving any animal from any place is going to be a stressful procedure and parrots are no different, no matter how hard we try all we can do is minimise this stress by whatever means we have available. A further problem arises in the colder months from October through to March where these parrots are not fully acclimatised to the British weather preventing any new arrivals within this period from going outside with their respective colonies in the zoo bringing on the major problem of 'Limited spaces'.

It is a sad fact that some people for whatever reasons do have to part with their birds, it is all too easy to sit back and make judgements on whether they are right or wrong, but a lot of these poor people didn't have the access to the knowledge that we hold today and never knew the full extent of keeping a parrot for what could be 30 or 40 years.

Once their decision is made or made for them in the events of deaths etc then they need to sort it out as soon as possible as their conscience tortures them, it is a fact that most choose the Parrot Zoo as the long term home they wish for their much loved birds due to the high quality of natural life offered here and all we can do is put each and every one on a list until we become full, to which then there is a long period of waiting until the weather changes.

We intend to change all that with our new winter and quarantine facilities and this is where you can help.

A state of the art building costing £75,000 which will hold up to 150 parrots in a temperature controlled, hygienic environment so offering an excellent quality of life while waiting to meet their new friends is now fully designed and ready for submission to the relevant planning departments, while this is being sought we are actively trying to raise £50,000 towards the total cost so this project can go ahead as soon as possible.
