Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running the 45th BMW BERLIN-MARATHON (which is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors) in September to raise money to help support the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary with the fantastic work they do for the marine mammals in Shetland.

I gave birth 15 months ago and have since been breastfeeding and looking after a young child while training and also working. It has been a great achievement for me to have now completed my "long" 20 mile training run in the last few weeks before the Marathon but it has also been one of the hardest things I have ever done. My body aches all over but I believe it will be worth it if I can help the animals in desperate need at the Sanctuary, a cause I believe to be truly worthwhile.

For over 30 years, Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary has been rescuing and rehabilitating sick, injured and abandoned seals and otters so they can be safely released back into the wild where they belong. It costs £10-50 a week to feed an otter, £10-£30 to transport a seal to the Sanctuary, £100-£200 a month to pay for electricity for the Sanctuary, £10-£100 to take a sick or injured creature to the vet.

I think the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary is so worthwhile because I believe we all have the responsibility to protect and help our wildlife, especially when it is so often at our doorstep. If we don't, then one day it may disappear forever.

About the charity

We have been caring for injured, sick and abandoned seals and otters since 1987, rescuing them in and around Shetland so we can rehabilitate and release them back to the wild where they belong. We have always relied entirely on donations to maintain and run the sanctuary. All our work is voluntary.
