Story
Hey everyone!
My name is Rebecca Grant and I have decided to raise money for The Encephalitis Society by taking part in the British 10K London run!
For those who have never heard of Encephalitis, it is the inflammation of the brain which is usually caused by infection or an inappropriate auto-immune response. The inflammation can damage nerve cells resulting in 'acquired brain injury'. Anyone can become ill with Encephalitis at any age.
In the year 1999, a very close friend of mines mum was diagnosed with Encephalitis. This was a huge shock to herself and her family as she was only 6 years old at the time of her mums diganosis. Luckily for her she had a large family that supported her, her brothers and dad whilst her mum was in hospital.
Thankfully her mum survived but it took her a long time to gain her confidence with directions and remembering certain people. She also lost her sense of smell and taste, which was very hard to adapt to but thanks to The Encephalitis Society, they helped her to build up her confidence and to know that she is not alone.
As a thank you on behalf of my friend and myself, I would like to raise as much money as I can for The Encephalitis Society.
The Encephalitis Society receive no Government funding so money raised means a great deal to the Society. This is a great charity that doesn't get alot of recognition, so by doing this run I am helping raise awareness of the charity, and raising as much money as I possibly can!
Thank you very much for your sponsors, it means a lot to my friend and her family, myself and the Encephalitis Society.
