We 're working to bring treatments for Rett Syndrome home

Story

On Sunday 1st October i'm proud to say I will be attempting to run the Cheltenham half marathon. "I'm running for Holly" and Rett Syndrome, www.reverserett.org.uk/

Holly is a beautiful young Cheltenham girl who suffers with Rett Syndrome which is a neurological condition which most often strikes previously healthy little girls between their first and second birthday and leaves them with multiple disabilities and medical complexities for life.

Research has shown that girls like Holly do not have brain damage. They know and understand much more than their bodies allow them to show but they are locked in, trapped by a body that cannot obey signals from their brain.

Reverse Rett is a UK medical research charity working to speed treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome has already been reversed in a lab. The charity works to drive these promising lab developments into tangible treatments and a cure for Holly and other young girls alike.

When i first met Holly and her mum Emma, i was overwhelmed at not only the strength shown by Holly and her family but also in the condition itself, which i had never heard of. I guess i connected with Holly, with having two daughters of a similar age.
I'm very honoured to run for Holly and raise as much money for the charity as i can.

For those who know me well, you will know my passion for coaching sports. Mainly I've coached boys football and young lads in the sport of bowls, some of whom have moved on to gain international honours. Recently, my daughters perserverence paid off and I'm now coaching girls football. I recently introduced Holly to our FC Lakeside U12's girls team. The team enjoyed meeting Holly and I'm sure Holly enjoyed meeting the girls too. We had a team photo with Holly, FC Lakeside girls, Gloucester City girls and Cheltenham Town defender William Boyle. The occasion was lovely and i explained to the team about my run for Reverse Rett.  The FC Lakeside girls are supporting me on my run and hoping i can get round in one piece for Holly.

I welcome your support and if you can, "pledge a fiver" that would be great.
My target is £1000 but with over 1000 Facebook friends, if we all "pledge a fiver" well that would be incredible and smash the best part of £5k, (my favourite training distance, well,,,,,,,,,,nearly)
I'm not looking forward to the recovery but i am determined and my family and friends will get me round for Holly.
Thanks everyone,
 Rob x
