RABIDFEST 2018 Charity Fundraiser & Giveaway

RABIDFEST 2018 Charity Fundraiser & Giveaway · 1 September 2018
RABIDFEST 2018 Charity Fundraiser & Giveaway, in association with Zombie Dust Pickups
"When Rock Against Child Pornography and Abuse was founded in 2006, it was as an awareness campaign outlining the lack of help and support being offered to victims of the crimes and emphasising the lifelong results of that abuse. We were also advocating safe use of the internet by young people as the dangers of chat rooms and internet grooming were just becoming apparent to the wider public.
We shouted and got in people’s faces, we used the term Child Pornography even when under constant questioning and heavy pressure wanted the term... in our opinion... softened to abuse. We argued that abuse was too wide a term and although we dealt with ALL forms of childhood abuse that the sexual abuse of innocents was our focus, and that the term child pornography was not wrong... the ACT was.
We soon found ourselves being approached by those victims who had found us online or met us at one of the musical events we had organised or attended up and down the country. They were seeking not just help and support but often just someone to simply listen to them, to believe them, and not to judge them. This led to us taking a counsellor on team in order to provide the best support we could to those that needed it, for as long as they needed it, and at no cost whatsoever to them.
In the years following we found ourselves working not just with victims themselves, but the parents of victims and the wider family... people who were concerned that abuse was happening ... or had found child pornography sites online and not known what to do about...with grandparents who were concerned about their children’s new partners and the possible risk to their grandchildren...and also by the families of the abusers themselves, also victims if in a very different way...who are also left stunned hurt and bewildered by this abhorrent crime.
We have always provided details and links to sites safe to use for children and young people, support agencies across the country and over the last few years also produced a series of information flyers covering all aspects of internet safety, aimed at both parents and young
people. Our next step, to be completed this coming year, is to create more flyers aimed specifically at different age groups, from the very young children who are playing games online right up to grandparents who may just not be as computer savvy as the younger generation.
We receive no official funding from any source and have always relied on the generosity of our supporters to fund our work, to allow us to get out into the wider world and reach as many people as much as we possibly can. We have had amazing support over the years, from sponsored diets to marathons, from head shaves to pub crawls...and of course the events that are held as fund raisers directly for us. We also produce our very own unique and handcrafted mascots...The L’arpies...that have been our major source of income since their inception and have traveled literally ALL over the world, taking the name and the message of RACPA UK from the USA to Australia... and pretty much all points between.
We have always been and will always be 100% volunteers, giving up our time for a cause we are all passionate about and each one of us bringing a different skill to the work. We will continue to be here for those that need us for as long as we humanly can, and then hopefully we will be able to pass the baton on. Of course, our dream is that one day organisations like ours are no longer needed, but until then...we will continue to Hear to Help."
The team at RABIDFEST are extremely proud to be able to host RACPA UK and help raise awareness and funds for them. RABIDFEST 2018 could not go ahead but that doesn't stop us raising money!
