WMWA is the lead charity in West Mercia working with victims/survivors of domestic violence and abuse. We provide services including Helpline, refuges, community support and group programmes for adults and children, support to high risk victims, survivor networks, training and consultancy.

Story

Violence against women isn’t a fun or sexy cause, but it’s sadly all too common. I’m running my first continuous 100km event, from Bath to Cheltenham, to raise money and raise awareness for this important issue.

I’m on the board of trustees for West Mercia Women’s Aid, so I’ve seen first hand the amazing work that the charity does for women in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and surrounding areas. We provide emergency housing for women and children in urgent need of a safe place to stay, a 24-hour domestic violence support helpline, group work sessions for women, and extra support for kids.

We’re partially funded by local authorities, but we want to provide a higher standard of service than “austerity” budgets will cover. Will you help me raise money to provide better services for local women and children who are going through  a really difficult time?

I ran my first marathon last spring, and I’ve never run this far before. 100km is just over 62 miles, so I’m doing 2 back-to-back marathons... and then an extra 10 miles for “fun”. It’s on the Cotswold Way, too, so I expect a few extra challenges in the form of the hills. My £1000 fundraising goal represents £10 for each km I’m going to run, and your donations will really help me to keep going and power through when things get difficult. Please give generously and help me reach my target!
