A milestone birthday year should be filled with spa days, meals out, parties and........ RUNNING!!!  Yup, the big birthday celebrations are going to have to wait until October 3rd has been and gone as from now until then I am in training to run The London Marathon.

This is a challenge that I have often thought about taking part in, and after a few unsuccessful years entering the ballot I have this year been accepted to run for Alzehimer’s Research UK #TeamARUK.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting around six in every 10 people with dementia in the UK.  Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. They fund world class studies aimed at building understanding of the diseases that cause dementia, improving the ability to diagnose these diseases, finding ways to reduce risk and developing life-changing new treatments.

In years past, I've sadly seen the impact of the disease on several of my family members and more recently I see its effects on friends as they and their family members live with the disease.  There is currently no cure and nobody can predict who will fall victim next.  By joining #TeamARUK and running The London Marathon I hope to raise lots of money for the charity, dedicated to making life-changing breakthroughs in diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. 

Any donation you make will go towards my overall fundraising target and will be so very much appreciated not just by me but also by all those affected by the disease.
