Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Recently my family have experienced the unfortunate passing of my mother, Rachael Patricia Lee Cross due to the devastating effects Huntington’s Disease can have on an individual.
Huntington's disease is a condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time. It's passed on (inherited) from a person's parents.
It gets gradually worse over time and is usually fatal after a period of up to 20 years.
My mum inherited the disease very early on at around 21 years of age and although the disease usually proves fatal from 20 years to which you first showed symptoms, Rachael lasted till age 50, to which the disease had totally stripped her from her quality of life at this point.
Huntington’s Disease can inhibit a person completely of having the ability to eat, talk and walk properly towards the later stages of Huntington’s and can cause symptoms of possible depression, confusion and lack of concentration early on in the first stages.
There is no cure for Huntington’s as of yet.
The offspring of the parent carrying the ‘Huntington’ gene have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease.
Through donating to this page you can help The Huntington’s Disease Association support others through the tough decision of getting a huntingtons test. As well as aiding more research for a Huntington’s cure.
