Both in my work as a midwife and family nurse, and in my own experience as a mum, I have been helped by the work of charities supporting and advocating for mums experiencing mental health challenges. Maternal OCD is a charity co-founded by two mothers, Maria Bavetta and Diana Wilson, who have experienced and recovered from extreme perinatal obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). It is a debilitating anxiety disorder which is treatable.
Maternal OCD aims are to:
1. Raise awareness of perinatal OCD to healthcare professionals, mums to be/new mums, researchers and national decision-makers
2. Provide information and support to mums and their families
3. Encourage and support perinatal OCD research
