Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July 1991 my life changed completely after being diagnosed with T1 Diabetes. My diagnosis was a very negative experience; being told of all the complications of diabetes and all the things that I could no longer do (supposedly) but I guess this made me more determined to do them instead.
Diabetes has never defined me or stopped me doing what I want - it just takes more planning and little bit of effort. I still play hockey and enjoy exercising, have 2 wonderful kids and make the most out of life.
I am supporting Diabetes UK because I feel sometimes we are taught that diabetes should hold us back but in reality if we accept it we can do what ever we want! More help and support is needed for those newly diagnosed and those who have been surviving for years.
Insulin is also not a cure - it is just life support. Hopefully one day a cure will be found. Especially with one new person diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes and 11 million more people at risk of developing the condition.
The 10km Run for Diabetes UKthat I was due to do in September has has been postponed and so my fundraising from that will now show as off line donations but I would like to say a special thank you to the following people who have donated so far:
Mum and Dad, Adam Franklin, Tracy Crampton, Tracey and Peter Bowbrick, Michael Brand, Paul Slater, Barry Friend, Jan and Don Millar plus an extra special thank to Mike Smith who sponsored £100 and will doing the Bridges Walk with me.
