Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Rachel, I am a keen amateur runner, happiest
running when knee deep in peat bogs and bounding over boulders in our beautiful countryside.

In July I will be taking part in my lifetime dream, running in the Zermatt Ultra in Switzerland. (A 50th birthday gift from my family).  I have never run an Ultra Marathon before, never mind one that goes uphill from start to finish. This is no ordinary marathon as it starts low in the valley at a town called Saint Niklaus and goes up to the highest altitude finishing line in Europe of 10,285 feet (3,135m) at the magnificent Gornergrat Observatory - 5 times higher than the highest peak in the Peak District.

My chosen charity for the Zermatt Ultra Marathon 2022 is Edale Mountain Rescue, who are a wonderful team of unpaid volunteers and our guardian angels of the Peak District.  Whether you are a rambler, a climber, a runner like myself or a visitor to the area, the rescue team are always on call in the unfortunate event we need their help. They respond in all weathers to the bleakest areas on all terrains 24 hours a day. They rely on donations and fund raising to be able
maintain the service they provide to us.

Their largest fund raiser is The Nine Edges Fell Race which I have been fortunate to compete in many times over the last few years and seen first-hand the dedication and commitment the whole
team have to keeping us safe on the hills.

I would therefore like to give a little something back whilst achieving
my life time goal of running the Zermatt Ultra Marathon in Switzerland on the 2nd July 2022

This event was originally planned for 2020 but was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. Again planned for 2021 with all the hard training completed only to be cancelled due to travel restrictions. This year it will happen!!

I really hope that you will be able to support me and Edale Mountain Rescue, I appreciate your kind generosity, any donations will go a
long way to keeping our countryside safe for everyone.

THANK YOU
