Story
I'm raising money for ABF The Soldiers' Charity who provide vital support to soldiers, veterans and their families in times of need. For Soldiers. For Life.
I have run the London marathon for ABF before because I believe in the great work they do to support the whole Army family. It is over five years since I have run anything more than about ten miles. The last five years have had their ups and downs with the downs impacting both my will and ability to run at times. So when I was lucky enough to get a ballot place for London I realised it was time to try to get back to running. I quickly realised I was much slower and it was much harder. After a period of beating myself up about this I realised that to be out running however slow is more important. We all must try not to compare ourselves with others…..one persons 10km is another’s ultra. So many people, particularly veterans can’t run for all sorts of reasons, that I can get off the couch and even attempt this is a start and I must be positive.
I have just run a half marathon (12 Mar), it hurt a bit but I did it and made it in ten mins quicker than planned so London now seems real and I’m feeling brave enough to tell everyone I’m doing it. If you can spare something, however small it will have a significant impact on soldiers lives. It will also help spur me on in the training runs to come.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering supporting this great charity.
