Story
I have decided to do a slightly different take on sober October. I have chosen my own charity to donate to and I will not have a “golden ticket” to use if I’m inclined to have a drink - I will be doing the full 31 days sober.
The Samaritans is a charity that offer free and confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you are feeling low, depressed or suicidal. I am just one of many who have had to use this service and I am so glad I did.
Every 6 seconds the Samaritans respond to a call. That call is often someone’s last lifeline.
I know that it’s clichè, but if you feel low, anxious, depressed or suicidal please talk to someone. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to someone you know, then phone, email or write to the Samaritans as many times as you need to. You are never alone.
I fully understand the affects of alcohol when you are already in a bad place, however, it is easy to dismiss these affects for the quick escape drink can give you. During the next 31 days I will be giving weekly updates of how I’m feeling and coping, mentally and physically, with this challenge.
After the support I received from the Samaritans I would love to give something back. Any size donation will help this charity continue to support vulnerable individuals when they’re at their lowest points.
Let’s help lower the horrific suicide rates in the UK. Please donate.
