Rachel's Everest Base Camp

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Anyone who knows me knows I love walking but I don't know how long that will last me on my 11 day trek up to Everest Base Camp, 5,645m above sea level. However, I like a challenge! I am one of eight children and my eldest brother Benjamin, now 30, got viral meningitis when he was 10 days old resulting in triplegic cereal palsy. Meningitis is the swelling of the meninges, the lining around the brain and spinal cord, caused mainly by germs entering the body. It affects more than 5 million people globally a year, and has the potential to kill within hours. Globally meningitis leaves 1 in 5 with impairments cause by the disease.
Benjamin has undergone many operations, overcoming constant set backs and hurdles life has thrown at him yet he is always smiling. Our family wouldn’t be the same without Benjamin. With your help the meningitis foundation aims: to defeat meningitis through the research of effective vaccines; to see more people survive with a better quality of life and reduced disabilities; to have more engaged, informed and supported patients and communities.
It would mean a lot to me and the Everest team if today you could give something to help another.
