Story
We are 20 amateurs (with a few proper runners thrown in to help!) who work in PICU in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. We have formed 4 teams who are currently training and trying to get fit enough to run the marathon in relay to support the work of Jengana.
JENGANA exists to try and help rescue people stuck in a vicious cycle of poverty in Kenya, East Africa.
We do this by supporting young people right from primary school through to college and university to attend school regularly by financing at least part of their fees. Education is vital in a country like Kenya where there is no social welfare system.
Jengana runs a home for vulnerable children who are admitted for various reasons, from abuse, abandonment or becoming orphaned. We provide a safe a loving home and send our children to a good school.
We also:
- have a clean water borehole which provides safe water to the children's home, Jengana staff and guests and to the local community for a small fee
- run a small micro finance project for women who need support starting their small businesses
- have started a football team/club for the local area near the children's home. Encouraging young men from the area to avoid crime/antisocial behaviour and hear about God through their devotional/team time. Most recently there is also a girls team starting.
- support a project working amongst the Masai people, rescuing girls from teenage marriage and ensuring that they can access education.
We would really appreciated your help in trying to raise much needed funds to support this work which relies entirely on well wishers and donations! Thank you!😊
