Story

BACE (Building and Assisting Communities with Education) is a fantastic small grass roots charity which raises funds to support specific projects in The Gamia they take groups of volunteers to focus on specific projects for example, building a school or health care clinic.

I was lucky enough (pre kids!) to take part in a couple of these projects and it's incredibly humbling to see and experience first hand the incredible difference BACE makes to these small rural communities, to see children who are actually buzzing with excitement to go to school to learn! How grateful pregnant women are who now have a safe, clean environment to give birth in the clinic. It’s amazing just how by being given the right tools and equipment/facilities they are able to make improvements to their way of life in a way that is respectful of their culture.

So the challenge - London Marathon 2022 takes place on Sunday 2nd October!  When Laura (my sister) first asked me if I would consider running the London Marathon for BACE, despite the fact I've entered the ballot every year for the past decade my brain still came up with numerous excuses, ie not enough time spent with the kids as it is and training is time consuming, how will I juggle running and summer holidays,  the pubs too busy! Put simply there are just not enough hours in the day to train... well sod it - I've managed to set myself a training plan and so far I’m just about on track🤞 I'm filled with a mix of excitement and genuine terror at the thought of running 26.2 miles, my only goal is to make it over the finish line whether it be walking or crawling!!

If you have read this far thank you so much for your support whether it is a donation to BACE or even just a friendly word of encouragement - it's all truly much appreciated!

With much love and gratitude,

Rachel xxx
