Story
On 25th July 2018 my sister was involved in a serious cycling accident on Old Street roundabout. When London Air Ambulance arrived Sarah had lost so much blood her blood pressure was critically low. The decision was made to perform a procedure called ROBOA to reduce the bleeding. This procedure has only ever been performed outside the hospital by London Air Ambulance and only then on 15 occasions. A balloon is inserted into the aorta, when inflated it prevents blood flow and gave the team enough time to fly her to Royal London, to operate on her.
Without London Air Ambulance she would have died on the road side that day, LAA is entirely funded by charitable donation, and costs £10m a year to run. Each life saving mission costs on average £1,700 and on average they treat 5 patients a day.
