Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have practised yoga on and off for many years, and in 2020 decided to deepen my knowledge and practice by taking a teacher training course. Having completed this and other subsequent trainings, it seemed appropriate to use this wonderful mind-body practice to fund- raise in memory of my beautiful niece Martha, who died in 2013 after a hard-fought battle against mental illness.
Open Door is a charity local to me, in Haringey North London, that offers free, confidential counselling and psychotherapy to young people aged 12-24 living in the borough. It is part-funded by the NHS, but relies heavily on charitable donations. It offers immediate help for any young person in crisis who either phones or walks through its doors. It also offers help to parents or carers who are struggling financially and can't afford private therapy, or to those who urgently need help and who don't have time to wait for a referral.
If you have enjoyed your yoga class/classes with me, a donation through this page to Open Door would be greatly appreciated. You can either donate after every class or make a one-off payment every half term to cover five classes or every term to cover ten classes.
This is how donations can help:
£5 can pay for a trained member of staff to carry out a phone conversation with a distressed young person who rings seeking help
£30 can pay for a depressed or anxious young person to have face-to-face therapy with a trained professional
£100 can pay for a struggling parent or carer to have three therapy sessions to help support them
£500 can pay for a young person to have a full course of therapy sessions Your support is much appreciated.
I look forward to seeing you on the mat!
