At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

On Sunday 18th May 2014 my four year old son Samuel was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood kidney cancer known as a Wilms Tumour. This news was absolutely devastating and as a Mummy I simply felt helpless.

Since this date Samuel has undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy under general anesthetic and had major surgery. He has had to cope with so much and most of if has been pretty awful.

We have been so fortunate to have the amazing support of our family and friends throughout this. CLIC Sargent have also supported us particularly when Samuel was first diagnosed in Oxford as we were able to stay in the CLIC house which was close to the hospital.  We also used this house during Samuel's operation and when he was having radiotherapy.

I have now decided that I would like to raise awareness of childhood cancer and help raise much needed funds. I will be running the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday 22nd March 2015. This will be a huge challenge for me but one that I know will be so worthwhile.  I am not much of a runner and since having children my body has not been quite the same however I am determined to complete this half marathon and raise lots of money for this fantastic charity.
