I am running the London Marathon 2023 for Lupus UK.

Lupus is an incurable immune system illness, probably genetic in origin and mainly suffered by females. It can affect any part of the body which means doctors often find it hard to diagnose. In Lupus, the immune system produces far too many antibodies which, circulating through the bloodstream, cause reactions leading to inflammatory processes anywhere in the body.

Lupus affects every person really differently. Sadly, some cases are very severe, and in others, it can be controlled really well. Lupus symptoms are varied and can be very unpredictable.

I had never heard of Lupus until 2010 when my best friend Abi was diagnosed with it when we were around 17 years old.

Since then she has, and continues, to deal with the symptoms of Lupus and the effects of the strong medication she takes with such bravery and without complaint.

Lupus UK is a charity committed to supporting people with Lupus and their families, funding research into the disease and educating people about what Lupus is. All money raised will go directly to the charity.
