Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’m running the Royal Parks half marathon in October with Cancer Research UK. It will be my first half marathon, something I never thought I would ever be able to do, but here we are! I’ll also be doing this alongside my wonderful sister in law, Kirsty.

My running began when I went through a redundancy last year and wanted to keep my mind (and body!) busy. I fell in love with it, and went on to set this half marathon goal to put use my new hobby. Being able to run for such a wonderful cause, in memory of my beautiful Mum, is something I am equal parts excited and nervous for.

My Mum, Rita, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2018. She underwent treatment and a mastectomy,  however, a type of chemotherapy was prescribed to her that she did not react well to. She spent 6 weeks in hospital before passing away on 19/01/2019 as a result of Sepsis, only 7 months after her diagnosis. My grief is an ongoing journey, with running a key part of maintaining my own mental health as my family and I learn to live with this loss.

Cancer took my Mum - my best friend, and I know it continues to affect so many others. I hope that whatever I can raise through doing this half marathon can go towards research that can prevent the untimely, far too early deaths of so many. From prevention to understanding the best courses of treatment, whatever I raise will go to something wonderful and worthwhile.

I am thankful and eternally grateful for every penny that you are able to spare. Here goes…!
