Story
On the 26th November 2014, my school friend Rob Harris unfortunately lost his battle to testicular cancer at the age of 21. Rob was someone I always looked up to throughout school, he was never without a smile on his face and I was constantly inspired by his positive attitude and love for others. He was a genuine pleasure to be around and I count myself lucky to be his friend.
I thought it was only apt to do something positive to remember Rob, so in 2014 I took up running long distance races to raise money for his chosen charity, CLIC Sargent Young Patients Cancer Charity. I hope my fundraising efforts will help raise awareness for cancer in young people, encourage more people to get regular health checks and raise money for young people who are currently battling the disease.
Between January 2nd-4th I will be live radio presenting for 40 hours. Radio Robbie is in its 3rd year and I hope this year will you can support me (and keep me awake) by helping me raise £2000 for my Virgin London Marathon 2018 efforts.
This year, I am racing in memory of Rob Harris and Alex Milligan who both lost their lives young to cancer.
This is the 3rd year since Rob's passing and consequently my 3rd year fundraising for CLIC Sargent. And I promise that year 3 is the biggest one yet. This year, I am aiming for that big £3000 fundraising target. To fundraise this year I will be competing in:
- 3 European Marathons (London, Rome and Berlin)
- 3 UK Half Marathons (Portsmouth Coastal Half, The Big Half and Hackney Half)
- 3 Discipline Event (AJ Bell London Triathlon- The World's biggest Triathlon)
- 3 Virtual Runs (Winter Run 10k, Mischief Managed 10k and Race to the Future 10k)
- 40 hour Live Radio Marathon (Radio Robbie 3.0)
Below is a list of events I have completed in Rob's memory so far:
London Winter Run 10k 2015, Palace Half Marathon 2015, Silverstone Half Marathon 2016 and the Virgin London Marathon 2016. (In March 2016, I participated in a 26.2 hour radio presenting marathon to raise money and awareness). You've Got A Friend In Me Virtual 6k, Catch 'Em All Challenge Virtual 17k, Harry Potter Platform 9 3/4k and the Half Blood Prince Half Marathon Virtual Run, 36 Hour Live Radio Marathon, Thorpe Park Half Marathon, Silverstone Half Marathon GWR trial, 1000 miles in 7 months and Virgin London Marathon 2017. In February 2017, we also lost the wonderful Alex Milligan to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the young age of 30. Whilst sick, Alex inspired hundreds of others by sharing so much positivity and spreading the importance of blood donations. That was Alex all over. Always helping others. So please if you have the time (and the blood) to spare, look up when your next local blood bank is in town and donate to help others. It honestly does save lives. Please check out Alex's incredibly courageous journey at www.alexisallin.com and if you would like to donate some pocket min Alex's memory please go to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/racingforalex
Thank you so much for your support and donations, they truly do go a long way. Please do continue to follow my running story and watch this space for more event updates!! Keep spreading that awareness!!!
